Yeah, this is definitely not Sludge and although I’m no expert for electronic music, I have to tell you that Arms And Sleepers new album “Find The Right Place” is absolutely worth a listen. Ambient Hip-Hop beats meet relaxing melodies and lyrical rap samples, making you feel like you’re tripping on acid a whole night. Get yourself some saggy jogging pants, your favourite XXL Sleep shirt and scrape the remains out of your grinder to chill the shit out of this fabulous record.

Once more a Swedish band manages to deliver a piece of great music. There must be something in the Scandinavian air – maybe some haze in the Northern sky? (Sorry.) Besvärjelsen means “conjuring” and it’s truly like magic, how this band is combining some of the best psychedelic Doom riffs, melodies and beats in 2018. Mainly spreading Black Sabbath and Candlemass vibes, Besvärjelsen also add Folkish parts to their music. Hexvessel fans will like it!

Three years after their unholy split with legendary Meth Drinker, Leechfeast offer some new music that crawls through your ears like mud. One cannot even imagine how this piece of extremely slow, harsh and heavy music called “Neon Crosses” was born. Leechfeast let you suffer from their deepest, drone-like riffing containing steady and epic melodies. The vocals alternate between reverberant screams and deep clean passages, which create a sacral feeling. All in all, Neon Crosses is one of the must have releases in Sludge music this year. Get it and sacrifice some herb while listening to this record!

With „De Doden Heben Het Goed III“, Belgium’s Black Metal avant-gardists Wiegedood continue playing their atmospheric, monotonous and epic style of Black Metal. Once more, they succeed in taking the spirit of bands like Weakling to the next level, adding that dark intensity, which makes every single Church Of Ra band so special. This third album is a solid sequel to Wiegedoods‘ two other releases. You shouldn’t expect too many experiments, but another record of constant Wiegedood quality.

After five years since “Mass V”, Belgium’s masters of heartbreaking Sludge Amenra released their fifth studio album in October 2017. And again those guys clench your neck and drag you to your own personal hell. On “Mass VI” Amenra are following their own style of sludgy Post-Metal again: slow and clean playing with spoken words and clean singing plus the probably heaviest slow riffing of Europe in 2017. There is nothing really new about “Mass VI” – but after some listening sessions, you will get the details, which make this album Amenra’s masterpiece. Even the most sceptic music snobs will lose their minds after listening to the intro of “Solitary Reign”.

This years’ Screamo releases were definitely rad. You cannot simply ignore this genre, even if you’re a true Sludge Worm. Next to I Hate Sex and Heaven In Her Arms, Boneflower from Spain put out one last masterpiece for 2017. “Empty Rooms, Full Bodies” is their second album and it floats between spoken word-like vocals and epic guitar peaks with sharp screaming. The whole thing is configured to induce goose bumps from the first listen. Boneflower accomplish to create an amalgam of Screamo and some kind of Post-Metal, which is both, expressive and emotional, music.
