KER – Buried At Sea/Comfort The Blind (EP)

Band: KER
Album: Buried At Sea/Comfort The Blind (EP)
Genre: Sludge
Label: Self-released
Release Date: November 6, 2017
Listen & Buy: Bandcamp
Social: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube

KER, based around the Bodensee in Southern Germany, are one of that great experiences, you must not ignore. Although this band has only a few released songs on their Bandcamp page, you should definitely check them out. Their style is rooted in Amenra and Neurosis and takes you on a dark sludgy Doom Metal trip. Their singer Alex sounds more pissed than ever, guitars and bass are even more hypnotic on this two song EP and fuck, I don’t know what is wrong with their drummer and his passion for unstoppable floating rhythms. With „Buried At Sea/Comfort The Blind“, KER show how ambitious they are. Both songs were recorded in their basement, which definitely went well, but not good enough for their planned full-length record. Both songs were mixed by Goblin Studios in Cologne and mastered by Monoposto Mastering in Düsseldorf. The entire EP can be downloaded for free on Bandcamp.

All Pigs Must Die – Hostage Animal

Band: All Pigs Must Die
Album: Hostage Animal
Genre: Hardcore Punk
Label: Southern Lord
Release Date: November 24, 2017
Listen & Buy: JPC, Amazon, Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp

All Pigs Must Die are here for harm. Consisting of Kevin Baker of The Hope Conspiracy, Ben Koller of Converge, Brian Izzi of Trap Them and Adam Wentworth and Matt Woods of Bloodhorse, All Pigs Must Die are a real Hardcore supergroup and this is exactly what you get, when you’ve got their third full-length record „Hostage Animal“ spinning on your turntable. It’s hard to reach higher levels of brutality, but I said that after listening to their first two albums as well. All Pigs Must Die are the misery of life, set to music.

Freedom Hawk – s/t (Re-Release)

Author: Tamino Freitag

Band: Freedom Hawk
Album: s/t
Genre: Stoner Rock
Label: Ripple Music
Release Date: September 22, 2017
Listen & Buy: JPC, Amazon, Bandcamp
Social: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter
Live: –

Eight years after its original release, Freedom Hawk‘s second full-length gets a re-release, so anyone, who has not been able to get his or her hands on the original pressing, can enjoy. Freedom Hawk‘s bluesy, riff-laden Stoner Rock hits the mark on every track on this self-titled release. The groove is irresistible, the guitars drop riffs as tasty as can be, and production compliments every aspect of the band’s sound. The main influence here seem to be the old Kyuss classics – although singer T.R. Morton sounds more like Ozzy than the man himself nowadays. This is the sort of music that makes you want to heat up your BBQ on your balcony in the middle of November. If you dig the genre, you will dig the album!

Shipwrecks – s/t

Author: Meredith Schmiedeskamp

Band: Shipwrecks
Album: s/t
Genre: Post-Rock
Label: Sportklub Rotterdam
Release Date: November 10, 2017
Listen & Buy: JPC, Amazon, Bandcamp
Social: Facebook, YouTube
Live: –

Cologne-based Shipwrecks have been formed in 2014 and they are playing instrumental, melancholic Post-Rock in the vein of Explosions In The Sky or Pg.Lost. Their approach to this kind of music doesn’t concentrate on creating something brandnew, but it calms the mind, widens the views and maybe eases some daily sorrows. It’s not easy to pick up one special highlight because all songs are build in a cohesive mood made of floating tremolo-melodies and a solid fundament of bass guitar and drums. Sometimes, I miss more dynamics and eruptions – Shipwrecks decide to stay on the dreamy and wistful side, where the most of us need to dive in from time to time.

Nuisance Of Majority – Savage Ritual

Author: Tamino Freitag

Band: Nuisance Of Majority
Album: Savage Ritual
Genre: Punky Thrash in suede shoes
Label: Backbite Records
Release Date: September 22, 2017
Listen & Buy: JPC, Amazon, Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp
Social: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube
Live: –

Nuisance Of Majority hail from the city of Kiel in Northern Germany and have been around for 15 years already – yet they still manage to sound hungry and pissed. The band’s style ranges from more traditional Stoner Rock to real punky, technical Thrash Metal and Hardcore. The singer especially stands out, as he reigns over the often times hectic riffs with a voice similar to Lamb Of God‘s Randy Blythe, while showcasing a classic, warm singing style in the songs, too. The songwriting could sound a bit more homogenous all in all, but this album is a cool and original addition to every collection.

After releasing “Sum Of R” in 2008 and “Lights On Water” in 2013, the Switzerland-based duo Sum Of R around mastermind Reto Mäder, who teamed up with drummer/percussionist Fabio Costa lately, unveiled their third album on September 15. “Orga” (short for “organic”/”organism”) contains less Metal influences than album #1 and #2 and is an Ambient record in the first place. Fans of oscillating soundscapes and spaced out acoustic experiments, who like to imagine roaming through mysterious woods and spooky fogs will get a real kick out of this release!
